“Love
is not a feeling, it is a test.”
-
Wittgenstein
That
is to say, there is nothing passive at play here. It doesn't just
happen to you and then pass on. Even if we say that it happens
unexpectedly, it creeps up, still it involves some work. Something is
to be done. Put into a real situation, this is how we tell that it is
love. Not that it can exist in the quiet ideal separtion from the
world, but that it exists alongside one, through one's life in the
functioning natural world. It becomes part of who we are. We are not
a love sufferer, but a love dweller, we fight for love, fight for
this change in who we are. A change in our priorities, in who and
what we care about.
