Above all, a Cohen poem.

I heard him recite his poetry, in the early 50s, in Montreal. Small places, a few hundred people...We loved him instantly. De tout coeur! And we loved him, when adding music to the words, he appeared, on the stage, with a guitar. Some people said, "Can he sing?" We didn't know. We didn't care. He was mesmerising. This is a great presentation. Each singer enriching the lyrics with their own uniqueness.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I chose Johnny Cash and K.D. Lang, because of all the cover versions (and there are quite a few, some awful) they seemed to really 'get' that it is a poem and they sung that poetry. As you say, enriching with their uniqueness (a good phrase).
